dc.description.abstractวิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1. ศึกษาพระประวัติผลงานของพระสมมตอมรพันธุ์โดยเฉพาะการอุทิศพระองค์ในงานก่อตั้งหอสมุดแห่งชาติของไทย ใน พ.ศ. 2448-2458 2. เพื่อค้นคว้าเพิ่มเติมเกี่ยวกับประวัติของบรรณารักษศาสตร์ในประเทศไทยในส่วนที่ยังไม่มีการศึกษามาก่อน วิธีวิจัยที่ใช้ คือ การสัมภาษณ์ใกล้ชิดและญาติสนิทกับการศึกษาค้นคว้าจากบันทึกส่วนพระองค์ จากหนังสือ วารสาร และเอกสารอื่นๆ ของหอจดหมายเหตุแห่งชาติ ผลของการค้นคว้ามีดังนี้คือ 1. ถึงแม้ว่าในระยะเริ่มก่อตั้งหอสมุดแห่งชาติของไทยที่มีปัญหามากมาย แต่การอุทิศพระองค์ต่องานด้านนี้ของกรมพระสมมตอมรพันธุ์ก็เป็นผลให้เกิดความก้าวหน้าและพัฒนาการเป็นอย่างดีใน พ.ศ. 2448-พ.ศ. 2458 โดยเฉพาะในการบริหารงานห้องสมุด และงานเทคนิคในห้องสมุด 2. การวิจัยเรื่องนี้ช่วยให้ทราบพระอุปนิสัยส่วนพระองค์ว่า กรมพระสมมตอมรพันธุ์ทรงเป็นพุทธศาสนิกชนที่ยึดมั่นในศาสนา ละเว้นการประพฤติมิชอบ และมีพระทัยเมตตากรุณา 3. พระองค์เป็นผู้ที่มีความสามารถในด้านอักษรศาสตร์และผู้วิจัยได้รวบรวมผลงานของพระองค์ทั้งที่ตีพิมพ์แล้วยังไม่ตีพิมพ์เป็นบรรณานุกรมประกอบบรรณนิทัศน์แยกประเภทตามสาขาวิชาขึ้นเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของวิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้ด้วย
dc.description.abstractalternativeThe purpose of this thesis were : 1. study the life and works of Prince Sommot Amarabhandhu, especially on his contribution to the establishment of the Thai National Library in B.E. 2448 - B.E. 2458. 2. To do an additional research of the history of Library Science in Thailand in order to fill a gap formerly omitted. The methods used in this research were :- interviewing with the Prince’s relatives, and studying from his diary, books, journals, and other documents in the National Archive. Major findings of the research were as follow : 1. In spite of many problems concerning the establishment of the Thai National Library, Prince Sommot Amarabhandhu’s contribution had resulted in its progress and development in B.E. 2448 - 2458, especially in library administration, and technical services. 2. The research revealed some of his characters that Prince Sommot Amarabhandhu was a devout Buddhist whose tenet of life is avoid doing evil and having a merciful heart. 3. The Prince himself was very noted in literary works. So, as a permanent record, a subject annotated bibliography of his works both published and unpublished was compiled as a part of the thesis.
