dc.description.abstractวิทยานิพนธ์นี้ มีความประสงค์ที่จะศึกษาถึงความเปลี่ยนแปลงของความคิดทางพุทธ ศาสนาที่เกิดขึ้นในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 และรัชกาลที่ 6 โดยพิจารณาอย่างมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับการก่อตัวของรัฐแบบใหม่ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 ในการศึกษานี้ ได้พิจารณาพระพุทธศาสนาโดยผ่านแนวคิดของชนชั้นนำ ทั้งนี้เพราะชนชั้นนำมีบทบาทเป็นผู้กระทำการในการเปลี่ยนแปลงให้เกิดรัฐแบบใหม่ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 ดังนั้นการพิจารณาแนวคิดทางพุทธศาสนาของชนชั้นนำโดยเฉพาะรัชกาลที่ 5 และรัชกาลที่ 6 จึงช่วยให้ได้เห็นความเปลี่ยนแปลงดังกล่าว ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ความคิดทางพุทธศาสนาที่เริ่มเปลี่ยนแปลงมาแต่สมัยต้นรัตนโกสินทร์ ได้เป็นรากฐานหรือเชื้อมูลให้แก่การปรับตัวในทางความคิดของชนชั้นนำในสมัยรัชกาล ที่ 5 ในกระบวนการของการปรับตัวทางความคิดของชนชั้นนำ พวกเขาก็ได้สร้างบทบาทในการเปลี่ยนรูปของรัฐให้กลายเป็นรัฐแบบใหม่ควบคู่ไปด้วย ความคิดทางพุทธศาสนาในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 มีลักษณะสำคัญคือ เน้นคำสอนที่มีลักษณะปฏิบัติได้ง่ายมากขึ้น และทำการเผยแผ่ให้แพร่หลายออกไป ขณะที่ในด้านบทบาทศาสนาพุทธได้สร้างเกียรติภูมิที่สำคัญให้ปรากฏในนานาประเทศด้วย สำหรับสมัยรัชกาลที่ 6 พุทธศาสนาได้มีบทบาทเป็นองค์ประกอบของ "อุดมการณ์ชาติ-ศาสนา-พระมหากษัตริย์" ที่เพิ่งเกิดขึ้นในสมัยนี้ รวมไปถึงบทบาทในเชิง "คุณธรรมของสังคม" คือเป็นเครื่องชี้นำความประพฤติของพลเมืองในชาติ
dc.description.abstractalternativeThe purpose of this thesis is to study the change of Buddhist thought which occurred during the periods of King Chulalongkorn and , King Vajiravudh. This change is closely related to the emergence of the modern Thai state in the reign of Chulalongkorn. In this study, Buddhism is investigated through the study of Thai elite's thought. This is because the elite played an important role which caused the change and the emergence of the modern Thai state in the period of King Chulalongkorn. It is found that, the change in Buddhist thought during the early Rattanakosin period was the foundation of Thai elite.'s religious thought during the reign of Chulalongkorn. Change in the Thai elites's thought also played a significant role in the emergence of the new state. Thai elite's Buddhist thought during the reign of Chulalongkorn emphasized more on the practical Buddhist principles. In the reign of Vajiravudh, Buddhism played a leading role as part of the "Nation, Religion and King", the new state ideology which had just been established. Buddhism was also included in the "social morality" which was supposed to be the guide of the people's behavior.
