dc.description.abstract	วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาเปรียบเทียบลักษณะการนำตำนานกษัตริย์ อาเธอร์มาใช้ในนวนิยายเรื่องอะ คอนเนกทิคัต เเยงกี อิน คิง อาเทอร์ส คอร์ต ของ มาร์ก ทเวน เเละเรื่อง เดอะ วันส์ เเอนด์ ฟิวเจอร์ คิง ของ ที.เอช.ไวต์ โดยนำตำนานต้นเเบบมาจาก ฮิสทอรี่ ออฟ เดอะ คิงส ออฟ บริเทน ของ เจฟฟรี ออฟ มอนมัท เเละ เลอ มอร์ต ดาตูวร์ ของเซอร์โทมัส มาโลรี จากการศึกษาพบว่า ทั้งทเวนเเละไวต์เหมือนกันที่นำตำนานกษัตริย์อาเธอร์ที่เป็นตัวเเทนของอดีตมาใช้เพื่อวิพากษ์ปัจจุบัน เเต่มีความเเตกต่างกันในรายละเอียด เนื่องจากความเเตกต่างของบริบททางสังคม วัฒนธรรม การเมือง ในช่วงที่นักเขียนเเต่ละคนมีชีวิตอยู่เเตกต่างกันออกไป ในเรื่อง อะ คอนเนกทิคัต เเยงกี อิน คิง อาเทอร์ส คอร์ต ของทเวนสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความภูมิใจในความก้าวหน้าทางเทคโนโลยีเเละต้องการที่จะเเยกตัวเป็นอิสระจากอังกฤษของคนอเมริกันศตวรรษที่ 19 ทเวนวิพากษ์วิจารณ์สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นในสังคมอังกฤษเเละอเมริกันอย่างเช่นการใช้เทคโนโลยีโดยขาดความระมัดระวัง การกอบโกยผลประโยชน์ของนโยบายจักรวรรดินิยมการใช้อำนาจกดขี่ของศาสนจักรนิกายโรมันคาทอลิกเเละระบบศักดินา รวมถึงความโหดร้ายของระบบทาส ส่วนในเรื่อง เดอะ วันส์ เเอนด์ ฟิวเจอร์ คิง ของไวต์วิพากษ์สังคมอังกฤษศตวรรษที่ 20 เพื่อการปรับเปลี่ยนให้ดีขึ้น เช่นควรเลี้ยงเด็กด้วยความรักพร้อมทั้งให้เรียนรู้จากประสบการณ์ตรง ความโหดร้ายของการใช้อำนาจในการปกครองเเละสงครามเป็นต้น	en
dc.description.abstractalternative	The purpose of this thesis is to study and compare the application of King Arthur legend in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain and The Once and Future King by T.H. White. The legend of King Arthur that appears in Twain's and White's novel is based on History of the King of Britain by Geoffrey of Monmouth and Le Morte D'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. The study shows that although Twain and White similarly appropriate King Arthur legend for criticizing their societies, theirs works differ in details due to their difference in social, cultural, and political context. In A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Twain reveals American pride in advanced technology and American desire for independence from the motherland. However, he criticizes certain beliefs and practices of his time such as careless use of technology, imperialism, the abuse of power by Roman Catholic Church and feudalism, and the cruelty of slavery. In The Once and Future King , White calls for the improvement of children's education based on love and experience and for the end of tyranny of communism and war.	en
