Abstract: Due to technical progress. There is in the Thai language a need for new words to express technical terms which are mostly in English. The royal Institue has usually coined words from Thai, Pali or Sanskrit word stocks or from the compounding of Thai and Pali or Sanskrit words. Still, there is a considerable number of English technical terms for which no appropriate substitute in Thai has yet been found. For these terms, transliteration of the English words into Thai has been used. The transliteration guide given in 1942 has met with a lot of problems. The sub-committee, Therefore, has set up new principles for transliterating which are meant to solve these problems, including those of transcribing vowels and consonants. A guide is also given for the use of tone-indicating symbol ,among others. These principles and guide when approved by the committee in charge of the English-Thai transliteration will be officially announced for use.
