dc.description.abstract	ยุคกลางเป็นช่วงเวลาที่เมืองเกิดขึ้นมากที่สุดในยุโรปและบรรดาเมืองเหล่านี้ได้กลายเป็นฐานของระบบเมืองที่สืบเนื่องมาในปัจจุบัน สภาพความสงบเงียบอันเกิดขึ้นประกอบกับการจัดระเบียบสังคมสมัยใหม่ได้เป็นแรงกระตุ้นให้ตัวเมืองเกิดขึ้นรอบ ๆ ปราสาท ขุนนาง มหาวิหารของบิชอปหรือการสร้างเมืองใหม่รอบ ๆ ซึ่งเป็นสถาบันสังคมอันช่วยใหเกิดกลุ่มพ่อค้า คือชนชั้นกลางของเมืองซึ่งกลายเป็นประชากรส่วนมากของเมือง พ่อค้าได้รวมตัวกันกับกลุ่มช่างฝีมือต่าง ๆ สร้างงานให้แก่ชาวเมือง เกิดระบบเศรษฐกิจอันเจริญรุ่งเรือง ความมั่งคั่งของเมืองทำให้ชาวเมืองหันไปสนใจเรื่องสังคมและวัฒนธรรม ชาวเมืองพยายามดิ้นรนให้สามารถปกครองตนเอง มีอิสระเสรี ตั้งเทศบาลและศาลปกครองตนเองขึ้นมา ประกอบกับช่วยเหลือคนยากจนหรือทาสให้เป็นอิสระจากการกดขี่ของเจ้าขุนมูลนาย โดยให้มาฝึกงานภายในเมือง เมืองยังเป็นศูนย์รวมของศิลปวัฒนธรรมต่าง ๆ อีกมาก เช่น เป็นแหล่งประดิษฐ์งานฝีมือ หัตถกรรม ศิลปกรรม งานเขียน งานออกแบบและสถาปัตยกรรม รวมทั้งเป็นต้นกำเนิดของมหาวิทยาลัยด้วย ชีวิตชาวเมืองฝรั่งในยุคกลางจึงจัดเป็นช่วงเวลาอันสมบูรณ์แบบที่สุด คือ มีความสุขความมั่งคั่ง ความปลอดภัย และใช้ชีวิตได้อย่างอิสระ	en
dc.description.abstractalternative	During the Middle Ages, cities and towns flourished in Europe and most of which had become the foundation of the present urban system. Tranquil atmosphere and new social transformation had accelerated the rise of cities around castler, noblemen, cathedrals of bishops, or new towns just built around the market centers where the majority of the newly created middle-class, the merchant clustered, Together with the craft-guilds, the merchant created various jobs for the citizens. The prosperity of the city turned the townspeople to new interest in society and culture. They sought toward autonomy by establishing the municipal system and to formulate law. They also freed the poor and the peasants from the feudal lords by persuading them to be apprentice in towns. Eventually, the city had become the center of diverse cultural activities such as handicraft, art-work design and architectural centers including seat of learning. Medieval urban life of the European fulfilled with happiness, wealth, safety and freedom.	en
