dc.description.abstract	วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้ มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อค้นคว้าเรื่องราวความเป็นมา ตลอดจนบทบาทของกามเทพจากวรรณคดีสันสกฤต ตั้งแต่เมื่อเป็นเพียงนามธรรม จนกระทั่งวิวัฒนาการเป็นเทพเจ้าแห่งความรัก ทั้งนี้เพราะเรื่องของความรักมีกล่าวถึงในวรรณคดีแทบทุกเรื่อง ข้อมูลและหลักฐานต่างๆ ผู้วิจัยได้รวบรวมจากวรรณคดีสันสกฤตต่างๆ ได้แก่ คัมภีร์ฤคเวท คัมภีร์อถรรพเวท มหาภารตะ หริวงศ์ และปุราณะฉบับต่างๆ ผลของการวิจัยนั้นพอสรุปได้ว่า ในคัมภีร์ฤคเวท กามเทพเป็นเพียงนามธรรมอย่างหนึ่ง และปรากฏตัวตนในคัมภีร์อถรรพเวทในฐานะเทพผู้ยิ่งใหญ่องค์หนึ่ง ส่วนบทบาทในฐานะเทพเจ้าแห่งความรักปรากฏแน่ชัดในสมัยกาพย์และปุราณะ บทบาทครั้งสำคัญของกามเทพคือเป็นสื่อรักระหว่างพระศิวะกับพระนางปารวตี จนทำให้กามเทพสูญเสียร่างกายได้นามว่าอนงค์ แต่หลังจากที่กามเทพได้รับพรจากพระศิวะ กามเทพได้เกิดเป็นโอรสของพระกฤษณะกับนางรุกมิณี ชื่อประทยุมน์ บทบาทของประทยุมน์คือเป็นนักรบผู้เก่งกล้า ในทางพุทธศาสนา กามเทพคือมาร ผู้คอยขัดขวางการบำเพ็ญความเพียรของพระพุทธเจ้า ก่อนที่พระองค์จะได้ตรัสรู้ บรรลุสัมมาสัมโพธิญาณ ในวรรณคดีไทยนั้นปรากฏว่าในสมัยสุโขทัย มีเพียงนามกามเทพปรากฏในหลักศิลาจารึกสมัยอยุธยาเป็นต้นมา กามเทพมีฐานะเป็นเทพผู้มีรูปงาม ส่วนผู้ที่ทำให้บทบาทของกามเทพเด่นชัดนั้นได้แก่ พระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกฏเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์วรรณคดีเรื่องต่างๆ และได้พระราชทานพระบรมราชาธิบายเรื่องราวของเทวต่างๆ ของอินเดีย จนทำให้กามเทพเป็นที่รู้จักกันดีในปัจจุบัน.	-
dc.description.abstractalternative	It is the purpose of the present researcher to conduct a study on the story and roles of Kama as the God of love, as he is always mentioned in almost every literary work of the romance type in Thailand. Data pertinent to him are gathered from Sanskrit literature and they are then analysed and presented in the form of a thesis. The sources of the data include in particular the Rgveda, the Atharvaveda, the Mahabharata, the Harivamsa and Various Puranas. It is found that in the Rgaveda, Kama is merely an abstraction. He is later mentioned in the Atharvaveda as a powerful god. His proper role as the God of love is an important theme in Sanskrit Kavyas and many Puranas. His most important episode as the God of love is described at length in various Puranas when he tried to ignite the flame of love between the god Siva and the goddess Parvati. The attempt resulted in the burning of his body by the flame flashing from Siva’s third eye, hence his name “Ananga”, the bodiless. He was however granted a boon by Siva so that he would be reborn as a son of Krishna and Rukmini, by the name of Pradyumna, who would be a great warrior. In Buddhism, Kama is identical with Mara who made a futile effort to dissuade the Buddha from attaining the supreme enlightenment. In Thai literature, the name Kama is found mentioned in an old stone inscription of Sukhothai period. From the Ayudhya period on he is referred to as a god with a beautiful Figure. But the most vivid and authoritative description of Kama in Thai is undoubtedly that by King Rama VI. In the appendices to his works adapted from episodes taken out of the Indian literature.	-
