dc.description.abstract	วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ มุ่งศึกษามหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ในพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวเปรียบเทียบกับเรื่องพระเวสสันดรในคัมภีร์ชาดกในพระไตรปิฎก ในคัมภีร์อรรถกถาชาดก และมหาชาติภาษาไทยที่แต่งขึ้นก่อนหน้ามหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ในพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว เพื่อให้เห็นลักษณะเด่นของมหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ในพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ผลการวิจัยพบว่า พระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงใช้อรรถกถาเวสสันตรชาดกเป็นต้นฉบับหลักในการพระราชนิพนธ์มหาชาติของพระองค์ทั้ง ๕ กัณฑ์ ได้แก่ วนปเวสน์ จุลพน มหาพน สักบรรพ และฉกษัตริย์ แต่พระองค์ได้ทรงค้นคว้าคัมภีร์ต่างๆ ทางพระพุทธศาสนาเพื่อตรวจสอบความถูกต้อง โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งคัมภีร์ชาดกและจริยาปิฎกแห่งพระสุตตันตปิฎก ขุททกนิกาย ทรงให้ความสำคัญกับคัมภีร์พระไตรปิฎกซึ่งเป็นคัมภีร์ชั้นปฐมภูมิมากกว่าคัมภีร์อรรถกถาและปกรณ์สมัยหลัง แม้ว่ามหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ฯ จะมีเนื้อเรื่องสอดคล้องกับเวสสันตรชาดกและอรรถกถาเวสสันตร-ชาดก แต่เมื่อเปรียบเทียบมหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ฯ กับมหาชาติคำหลวง กาพย์มหาชาติ มหาชาติของ พระเทพโมลี (กลิ่น) และมหาชาติพระนิพนธ์ของสมเด็จพระมหาสมณเจ้า กรมพระปรมานุชิตชิโนรสแล้ว พบว่ามหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ฯ มีรายละเอียดของเนื้อเรื่องที่ให้เหตุผลเกี่ยวแก่การกระทำของตัวละคร เหตุการณ์ ธรรมเนียมปฏิบัติ พิธีกรรม และปรากฏการณ์ทางธรรมชาติ ให้ความรู้ทั่วไปและความรู้เกี่ยวแก่ความหมายของคำศัพท์ภาษาบาลีมากกว่ามหาชาติสำนวนอื่นอย่างเห็นได้ชัด แสดงให้เห็นว่า พระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวได้ทรงค้นคว้าข้อมูลอย่างดียิ่งในขณะที่ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์มหาชาติ นอกจากนี้ พระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวได้ทรงเสนอแนวคิดด้านการปกครองไว้ในมหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ฯ ว่า ผู้ปกครองที่ดีควรเป็นผู้ให้ความสำคัญกับความคิดเห็นของประชาชนและความสงบสุขของบ้านเมืองมากกว่าความสุขของตน เป็นผู้มีความยุติธรรม มีความเมตตากรุณา มีสติปัญญา ไม่ลุ่มหลงสตรีจนขาดสติ ในแง่วรรณศิลป์ พบว่า ความงามในมหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ฯ เป็นผลมาจากพระบาทสมเด็จพระ จอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงสร้างคำศัพท์ขึ้นมาใช้ในมหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ฯ ของพระองค์จำนวนมาก คำศัพท์ที่พบจำนวนหนึ่งเป็นคำที่ไม่ปรากฏในมหาชาติสำนวนอื่น นอกจากนี้ ยังเกิดจากการสร้างสัมผัสทั้งสัมผัสสระ สัมผัสพยัญชนะ และสัมผัสวรรณยุกต์ การสร้างภาพพจน์ การสร้างจินตภาพ และการใช้ภาษาอธิบายที่เรียบง่ายแต่สื่อสารได้ตรงประเด็น ลักษณะต่างๆ ของมหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ฯ ดังกล่าว ทำให้มหาชาติพระราชนิพนธ์ฯ เป็นมหาชาติที่มีความโดดเด่น เป็นวรรณกรรมชิ้นเอกในบรรณพิภพของไทย สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงพระอัจฉริยภาพของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวทั้งทางกวี ทางวิชาการ และทางการปกครองอย่างเยี่ยมยอดยิ่ง	en
dc.description.abstractalternative	This thesis aims to study Mahachat of King Mongkut comparing with the story of Vessantara both in Tipitaka and Atthakatha as well as with prior versions of Mahachat of King Mongkut in order to point out characteristics of the latter. The research concludes that 5 chapters of Mahachat of King Monkut: Vanappaves, Jullapon, Mahapon, Sakkabap and Chokasat follows the story of Atthakatha, however; King Monkut researches several Buddhist Canon especially the Jataka Book and the Cariyapitaka Book of the Suttantapitaka Khuddakanikaya to recheck for the correctness. This reflects that King Monkut gives more importance to the primary Pali Canon than the Atthakathas as the secondary one. Although The story of Mahachat of King Mongkut is agreed to the story of Mahachat Khamluang, Kap Mahachat, Mahachat of Phra Thepmoli (Klin) and Mahachat of H.S.P. Prince Paramanujitajinorasa, it obviously contains several differences especially the numerous details emphasizing on explanations how characters, situations, customs, rituals and natural phenomenon found in King Monkut version of Mahachat are. He also explains a lot of significant Pali words and adds general knowledge into his work. This reflects that King Mongkut did his research very well when he composed his Mahachat. In his Mahachat, King Mongkut also presents the ideas about administrative principles. He gives suggestions that good governors should listen to people’s opinions and think of the peaceful of the country not their own happiness. They should also love justice, kindness, intelligence and avoid exceeded infatuation. For literary characters, the beauty in Mahachat of King Mongkut is a result of numerous words which King Mongkut formed himself. A certain number of them do not appear in other works. It is more apparent due to the use of alliteration: consonant, vowel and tone, the use of figures of speech, images, and the use of simple but effectively clear expressions. The mentioned characteristics of Mahachat of King Mongkut make it distinctively different from other versions of Mahachat and be one of the masterpieces among Thai literary works. Above all, Mahachat of King Mongkut highly reflects King Mongkut’s genius characters both in poetry, academic and administration.	en
