| Abstract: | วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาสถานภาพและบทบาทสตรีในครอบครัวไทยเชื้อสายจีนในนวนิยายไทยแนวชีวิตครอบครัว พ.ศ. 2538-2546 จำนวน 8 เรื่องได้แก่ กิ่งไผ่-ใบรัก ทางสายธาร ใต้เงาตะวัน และ บ้านร้อยดอกไม้ ของปิยะพร ศักดิ์เกษม เจ้าสัวน้อย หมวยอินเตอร์ และ เจ้าสัวเจ้าสำราญ ของโสภี พรรณราย และ เลดี้เยาวราช ของทิพเกสร โดยศึกษาบริบทต่างๆของนวนิยายดังกล่าว อันได้แก่ ภูมิหลังทางสังคมทั้งด้านโครงสร้างครอบครัวและการผสมกลมกลืน และศึกษาพัฒนาการของนวนิยายที่นำเสนอเรื่องราวชาวจีนในประเทศไทย รวมถึงแนวการประพันธ์ของผู้เขียน ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ว่า สภาพสังคมไทยในยุคโลกาภิวัตน์ได้เป็นปัจจัยสำคัญในการเปลี่ยนแปลงสถานภาพและบทบาทสตรี ประการแรก สตรีในวัยกลางคนได้รับอิทธิพลด้านการอพยพ การสมรสข้ามชาติและสังคมทุนนิยม ตัวละครเหล่านี้ได้พัฒนาวัฒนธรรมและการประกอบธุรกิจอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของชาติพันธุ์ให้ดำรงอยู่ในโลกสากล อีกทั้งพวกเธอยังทำหน้าที่เป็นมารดาที่อบรมขัดเกลาสตรีรุ่นใหม่ให้มีสิทธิเสรีภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น ประการที่สอง ตัวละครสตรีบางคนนั้นได้เป็นภาพสะท้อนของอิทธิพลของการสมรสข้ามชาติที่เปลี่ยนแปลงสถานภาพและบทบาทของภรรยาไปจากจารีตดั้งเดิม ในทางตรงกันข้ามภรรยาต้องเผชิญหน้ากับค่านิยมมีภรรยาหลายคนของชายนักธุรกิจในสังคมชนชั้นกลาง สำหรับสถานภาพและบทบาทของลูกสาวนั้นพบว่าปัจจัยด้านการขัดเกลาทางสังคมจากสถาบันการศึกษานำไปสู่การพิสูจน์ความสามารถในการทำงานที่ทัดเทียมกับบุรุษ อย่างไรก็ดี การใช้ชีวิตในสังคมสมัยใหม่อาจทำให้สตรีที่ได้รับการเลี้ยงดูแบบจารีตจีนเกิดความขัดแย้งทางวัฒนธรรม ท้ายที่สุดแล้วพวกเธอได้เรียนรู้การยอมรับรากเหง้า และนำวัฒนธรรมดั้งเดิมมาปรับใช้ในโลกสากลอย่างเหมาะสม |
| Other Abstract: | The objectives of this thesis are to study the statuses and roles of women in Thai-Chinese families in eight Thai domestic novels by three authors, written between 1995 and 2003: Piyaphon Sakkasem’s King Phai Bai Rak, Thang Sai Than, Ban Roi Dok Mai and Tai Ngao Tawan; Sophi Phannarai’s Chao Sua Noi, Muai Inter and Chao Sua Chao Samran; and Thipkeson’s Lady Yaowarat, and to analyze the contexts of these novels, namely the social background with regard to family structure and assimilation; the development of Thai-Chinese’s images in Thai novels; and the authors’ writing styles The study result shows that the selected novels present globalization in Thailand as a key factor in changing the statuses and roles of women. First, middle-aged woman characters are portrayed as being affected by immigration, intermarriage and capitalist society. They are shown to cultivate culture and business that pertain uniquely to their ethnicity in modern world. Moreover, they have the role of mothers who bring up women of a new generation who will have more rights and liberty. Secondly, some characters are reflections of the changes in statuses and roles of wives from traditional practices, resulting from intermarriage. However, some wives are still faced with their middle-class businessman husbands’ inclination toward polygamous practices. As for daughter characters, socialization by the education institution leads them to prove their ability to work as well as men. However, life in modern society may cause daughters with traditional Chinese upbringing to have cultural conflicts. Finally, they learn their ways to accept their roots and adapt traditional culture properly to suit life in the modern world. |
