dc.description.abstractวิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษาถึงบทบาทและผลงานทางด้านการสื่อสารคมนาคมของพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ กรมพระกำแพงเพชรอัครโยธิน พระราชโอรสในพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ที่ได้รับการศึกษาจากประเทศตะวันตกและนำวิทยาการอันทันสมัยในด้านดังกล่าวมาปรับปรุงความเจริญก้าวหน้าของประเทศ ผลจากการศึกษาพบว่า พระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ กรมพระกำแพงเพชรอัครโยธิน ทรงเป็นผู้บริหารที่ประสบความสำเร็จอย่างมากในการนำความเจริญก้าวหน้าทางด้านการสื่อสารคมนาคมมาสู่ประเทศไทยโดยลำดับมา เป็นผลให้การพัฒนากิจการด้านนี้ขยายตัวออกไปอย่างรวดเร็วตลอดสมัยที่ทรงดำรงตำแหน่งผู้บัญชาการกรมรถไฟ และเสนาบดีกระทรวงพาณิชย์และคมนาคม โดยเฉพาะงานในด้านกิจการรถไฟ ถนนและทางหลวง การบินพาณิชย์ระหว่างประเทศ ตลอดจนการสื่อสารคมนาคมในด้านการไปรษณีย์ โทรเลข โทรศัพท์ และ วิทยุกระจายเสียง แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม ในการบริหารงานของพระองค์ดังกล่าว พบว่าต้องทรงประสบปัญหาและอุปสรรคสำคัญหลายประการ นับตั้งแต่การเผชิญหน้ากับอิทธิพลและการแสวงผลประโยชน์ของประเทศตะวันตก และปฏิกิริยาคัดค้านจากผู้บริหารในรัฐบาลที่ได้รับผลกระทบจากการดำเนินนโยบายของพระองค์ ซึ่งปรากฏว่าทรงสามารถผ่อนคลายปัญหาและอุปสรรคต่างๆ ให้บรรเทาเบาบางลงได้ ที่เห็นได้อย่างชัดเจนคือทรงประสบความสำเร็จในการต่อรองผลประโยชน์กับประเทศมหาอำนาจตะวันตกในกิจการรถไฟและการบินพาณิชย์ระหว่างประเทศทำให้ฝ่ายไทยไม่เสียเปรียบและได้รับประโยชน์ตอบแทนตามสมควร ในกรณีที่พระดำริและนโยบายของพระองค์ไม่เป็นที่ยอมรับจากผู้บริหารในรัฐบาลก็จะทรงชี้แจงให้เหตุผลจนได้รับความเชื่อถือและโอนอ่อนคล้อยตามจากรัฐบาลในที่สุด จึงนับได้ว่างานพัฒนากิจการสื่อสารคมนาคมของประเทศในช่วงระหว่าง พ.ศ. ๒๔๖๐ – ๒๔๗๕ ในรัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว และ พระบาทสมเด็จพระปกเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว เกิดจากแนวพระดำริและแรงผลักดันของ พระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ กรมพระกำแพงเพชรอัครโยธิน เป็นอย่างมาก และเป็นรากฐานของความเจริญก้าวหน้าในกิจการสื่อสารคมนาคมของประเทศในปัจจุบันen_US
dc.description.abstractalternativeThis thesis is a study of the role of Prince Krom Phra Kambaengbejra Argayodhin in the development of the present communications network in Thailand. He was King Rama V’ son, born in 1882 and educated in England. He used his acquired knowledge plus the latest in modern technology to develop the country. Prince Krom Phar Kambaengbejra Argayodhin was a successful administrator who brought the greatest measure of progress to the communications industry in Thailand. While he was the Director-General of the Railways and Minister of Commerce and Communication, his work in this area was very progressive especially the railways, roads and highways, international aviation as well as post, telegraph, telephone and radio broadcasting. In his work, he had to face many problems: profit-taking of the western powers and the opposition of the government administrators who were affected by his policy. However, he was a mediator and was able to settle the various conflicts that arose. One of his prominent successes was his talk with the western powers in relation to the railways and international aviation from which Thailand got reasonable profit. When his ideas and policies were not accepted by the government administrators, he tried to explain and finally could make them accepted. We can say that the development of the communications of the country from 1917-1932 which was during the reign of King Rama VI and VII was initiated by Prince Krom Phra Kambaengbejra Argayodhin and this was the foundation of the present communications system.en_US
