| Abstract: | วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายที่จะศึกษาค้นคว้าชีวประวัติและผลงานวรรณกรรมของนายสันต์ ท. โกมลบุตร ตามหลักวิชาวรรณกรรมวิจารณ์และการคัดเลือกหนังสือดีสำหรับห้องสมุด เพื่อให้เข้าใจถึงชีวิตและผลงานของเขา ในด้านทรรศนะ อุดมคติ และวิธีการที่ใช้ในการสร้างสรรค์งานวรรณกรรมแต่ละประเภท ตลอดจนลักษณะเด่นของเขาในด้านที่เกี่ยวกับการใช้ภาษาสำนวน อารมณ์ขัน และโดยเฉพาะด้านความสามารถในการใช้ภาษาสำนวน อารมณ์ขัน และโดยเฉพาะด้านความสามารถในการใช้ภาษาสำนวนแปลสารคดีเชิงประวัติศาสตร์จากภาษาฝรั่งเศส ฉบับสำนวนเก่าร่วม 300 ปี วิธีดำเนินการวิจัยมีดังนี้ 1. ศึกษาและค้นคว้าจากหนังสือ นิตยสารและเอกสารอื่นๆ ที่ลงพิมพ์เรื่องราวว่าด้วยชีวประวัติและผลงานวรรณกรรมของ สันต์ ท. โกมลบุตร 2. ศึกษาแนวทางวิเคราะห์และวิจัยจากตำราวิชาวรรณกรรมวิเคราะห์และวรรณกรรมวิจารณ์ ทั้งภาษาไทยและภาษาต่างประเทศ และจากวิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับที่วิจัยเกี่ยวกับหัวเรื่องเดียวกัน 3. สัมภาษณ์นายสันต์ ท. โกมลบุตร และบุคคลที่เกี่ยวข้อง 4. วิเคราะห์ผลงานของ สันต์ ท. โกมลบุตร ประเภทนวนิยายและเรื่องสั้น ด้วยการเขียนอธิบายเป็นความเรียง 4 ด้านคือ 4.1 ด้านลักษณะการประพันธ์ 4.2 ด้านทัศนคติและมโนธรรม 4.3 ด้านประเทืองปัญญา 4.4 ด้านลักษณะรูปเล่มและคุณภาพในการพิมพ์ วิเคราะห์ผลงานด้านสารคดี 4 ด้านด้วยกัน คือ 4.5 ด้านเนื้อหาสาระ 4.6 ด้านทัศนคติและมโนธรรม 4.7 ด้านประเทืองปัญญา และ 4.8 ด้านลักษณะรูปเล่มและคุณภาพในการพิมพ์ วิเคราะห์ผลงานแปล 4 ด้านด้วยกันคือ 4.9 ด้านความรู้และความสามารถของผู้แปล 4.10 ด้านความเหมาะสมในการเลือกเรื่องจากฉบับภาษาเดิม 4.11 ด้านความถูกต้องในการใช้ศัพท์สำนวน 4.12 ด้านลักษณะรูปเล่มและคุณภาพในการพิมพ์ ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ว่า งานของ สันต์ ท. โกมลบุตร ที่มีคุณค่าต่อการศึกษาวิชาประวัติศาสตร์ ได้แก่วรรณกรรมประเภทงานแปล ส่วนวรรณกรรมประเภทนวนิยายและเรื่องสั้นนับว่าประสบผลสำเร็จดีพอสมควร ถ้าเปรียบเทียบกับบทประพันธ์ร่วมสมัย เมื่อล่วงสมัยแล้วนวนิยายและเรื่องสั้นของเขามีคุณค่าทางด้านเป็นแหล่งค้นคว้าในการศึกษาศิลปการประพันธ์และพัฒนาการของงานวรรณกรรมไทย ตลอดจนลักษณะบางประการของสังคมไทยในช่วงระยะเวลาที่นวนิยายหรือเรื่องสั้นแต่ละเรื่องแต่งขึ้น สำหรับงานสารคดีได้รับผลสำเร็จดีพอใช้ ผู้วิจัยได้รวบรวมผลงานของเขาทั้งหมดที่รวมพิมพ์เป็นเล่มแล้วและยังไม่ได้พิมพ์เป็นเล่มเท่าที่หาต้นฉบับได้ เขียนบรรณนิทัศน์ทั้ง 3 ประเภทคือ นวนิยายและเรื่องสั้น สารคดี และงานแปล ผลการวิเคราะห์งานวรรณกรรมด้าน นวนิยายและเรื่องสั้น ปรากฏว่าด้านลักษณะการประพันธ์ด้านประเทืองปัญญา ด้านทัศนคติและมโนธรรม ด้านให้ความเพลิดเพลินจรรโลงใจ และมีส่วนช่วยในการสร้างและส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรม และในด้านที่ก่อให้เกิดความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคมและให้มีรสนิยมดีอยู่ในชั้นดี ทางด้านลักษณะรูปเล่มและคุณภาพในการพิมพ์ ปรากฏว่าตัวอักษรและการพิมพ์ การจัดแบ่งเนื้อหา และการวางรูปหน้ากระดาษอยู่ในชั้นดีพอใช้ สำหรับผลงานด้านสารคดี ปรากฏว่าด้านเนื้อหาสาระ ด้านประเทืองปัญญา ด้านทัศนคติและมโนธรรม ด้านให้ความเพลิดเพลินจรรโลงใจ มีส่วนช่วยในการสร้างและส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรม และในด้านที่ก่อให้เกิดความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคมและมีรสนิยมดี ตลอดจนลักษณะรูปเล่มและคุณภาพในการพิมพ์ อยู่ในชั้นดีพอใช้ ด้านเชิงอรรถและส่วนโยงมีปรากฏบ้างเป็นสวนน้อย ส่วนอภิธานศัพท์ยังไม่ปรากฏ ผลการวิเคราะห์งานแปล ปรากฏว่า สันต์ ท. โกมลบุตร มีความรู้ความสามารถทางด้านภาษาศาสตร์และประวัติศาสตร์อยู่ในชั้นดีมาก ด้วยหลักฐานที่เห็นได้ชัดที่สุดคือเขาเป็นผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิที่ได้รับความเชื่อถือจากกองวรรณคดีและประวัติศาสตร์ กรมศิลปากรให้เป็นผู้แปลเอกสารเกี่ยวกับประเทศไทยที่ชาวฝรั่งเศสบันทึกไว้ตั้งแต่สมัยสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช กรุงศรีอยุธยา ในด้านการเลือกเรื่องจากฉบับภาษาเดิมเพื่อนำมาแปลเป็นภาษาไทย ปรากฏว่าเลือกจากฉบับที่มีคุณค่าต่อการศึกษาวิชาประวัติศาสตร์ไทย ด้านความสัมพันธ์กับประเทศในทวีปยุโรป สมัยอยุธยาและต้นรัตนโกสินทร์ ด้านความถูกต้องในการใช้ศัพท์สำนวนแปล ปรากฏว่า สันต์ ท. โกมลบุตร มีความสามารถสูงในการแปลถ่ายทอดจากภาษาฝรั่งเศสมาเป็นสำนวนภาษาไทยที่ถูกต้องเหมาะสมกับเนื้อเรื่องและกาลสมัยของเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในระยะเวลาเดียวกับบันทึกเอกสารแต่ละฉบับ และปรากฏว่างานแปลฉบับของ สันต์ ท. โกมลบุตร มีความถูกต้องสมบูรณ์ทั้งด้านเนื้อเรื่องและภาษาสำนวนมากกว่า งานแปลจากต้นฉบับภาษาต่างประเทศเรื่องเดียวกันของผู้แปลคนอื่นๆ ที่เคยปรากฏมาก่อน ด้านลักษณะรูปเล่มและคุณภาพในการพิมพ์อยู่ในเกณฑ์ดี ตัวพิมพ์ชัดเจน ภาพประกอบเข้ากับเรื่อง รูปเล่มแข็งแรงและใช้กระดาษค่อนข้างดี คุณภาพการพิมพ์และลักษณะรูปเล่มโดยทั่วไปดีกว่าการพิมพ์และลักษณะรูปเล่มของวรรณกรรมประเภทนวนิยายและสารคดี ในด้านส่วนตัวนับได้ว่าเขาเป็นผู้ประสบความสำเร็จในการดำเนินชีวิต เขาพอใจในชีวิตที่ผ่านมาแล้ว และมีความสุขกับชีวิตปัจจุบัน พร้อมด้วยภรรยาและบุตรธิดาที่ประกอบอาชีพเป็นหลักฐานแล้วทุกคน |
| Other Abstract: | The objective of this thesis is to study the life and literary works of Mr. Santa T. Komolabutra, using the theories of literary criticism and of book selection, in order to gain more knowledge and understanding of his attitude, idea and style of writing, including his prominent in using language, idiom and humour in his works, eapecially his ability to translate historical records and documents from 300 year-old French into the Thai language. The methods used in this research are as follows. Studying from books, journals, and other documents related to life and works of Santa T. Komolabutra ; Studying the method of analyzing and research from literary analysis and literary criticism textbooks, and from those thesis under the title of the related subjects. Interviewing Mr. Santa T. Komolabutra and those who have known him. Analysing his fictional works (novel and short-story) into 4 aspects namely ; the literal component, intellectual component, attitude and value component, and the format and quality of typographic design ; Analysing his non fictional works into 4 aspects namely ; the knowledge component, the intellectual component, the attitude and value component, and the format and quality of typographic design ; Analysing his translation into 4 aspects ; namely ; the knowledge and efficiency of the translator, the right selection of the original tests, the good command of language and idom used in translating, the format and quality of typographic design ; The analysis of his works reveals that, the work of translation is very valuable for the study of history, His fictional work is popular among his contemporaries. When they become the literary works of the past decades, those fictions are considered as sources for studying the art of writing novel and short-story, including the Thai social traits, appeared in those works. As for his non-fictions, they are fairly succeeded. All of his works are annotated and divided into 3 subjects, namely ; novels and short-stories, non-fictions, and translation. The analysis of his novels and short-stories reveals that the literal component, the attitude and value component, the inspiration, recreation, and cultural inspiration, the social responsibility are good. The format and quality of typographic design, the arrangement and covers are fair, The analysis of his non-fictions reveals the knowledge and intellectual component, the attitude and value component, the inspiration recreation, and cultural inspiration, the social responsibility as well as the format and quality of typographic design are fair. There are no glossary appendix and bioliography. Footnotes and references are rare. The analysis of his translation shows his good command of Thai and French and good knowledge of history, for he has been know as a highly qualified translator, working for the Literary and Historical Section of the Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Education. The selection of the original texts for translating is very suitable and valuable for the study of Thai history in the aspect of Thai-European Relationship in Ayudhaya and early Ratanakosint period. The using of language and idiom is highly effective, so that his Thai versions are properly suitable according to time and content of each text. Moreover it is proved that his Thai versions are more completed than those works translated before. The format and the quality of typographic design is better than those of this fictions and non-fictions. In conclusion, he is considered one of the popular writers of his time. His past life has been satisfied as well as his happiness at present, in the warmth of his family together with sons and daughters who all successfully settled down. |
