| Abstract: | วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบนวนิยายแนวกระแสสำนึกของ เวอร์จิเนีย วูล์ฟ และวิลเลียม โฟล์คเนอร์ เพื่อวิเคราะห์กลวิธีการประพันธ์แนวกระแสสำนึก และเนื้อหาของนวนิยาย อันได้แก่ โครงเรื่อง แก่นเรื่อง และ ตัวละครจากการศึกษาพบว่า เวอร์จิเนีย วูล์ฟ และวิลเลียม โฟล์คเนอร์ต่างก็มีกลวิธีการประพันธ์แนวกระแสสำนึกที่มีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว และใช้กลวิธีการประพันธ์นำเสนอเนื้อหาในนวนิยายแนวกระแสสำนึกของตนได้อย่างเหมาะสมในด้านกลวิธีการประพันธ์ จะศึกษาเปรียบเทียบ 3 กลวิธี ได้แก่ กลวิธีการเล่าเรื่อง กลวิธีการใช้ภาษา และกลวิธีการตัดต่อ และย้อนเวลา กล่าวคือ ด้านกลวิธีการเล่าเรื่อง วุล์ฟและโฟล์คเนอร์ใช้บทรำพึงเป็นกลวิธีพื้นฐาน แต่จะแตกต่างกันที่การใช้มุมมอง วุล์ฟใช้มุมมองแบบบบุรุษที่ 3 แต่โฟล์คเนอร์ใช้มุมมองแบบบุรุษที่ 1 ด้านกลวิธีทางภาษา นักประพันธ์ แสดงการทำงานของจิตใจโดยใช้ลีลาทางภาษาและภาพพจน้ วุล์ฟใช้รูปประโยคที่มีความยาวอันประกอบไปด้วยเครื่องหมาย วรรคตอนต่างๆ วลี และอนุประโยค หรือคำซ้ำ ส่วนโฟล์คเนอร์ก็เช่นเดียวกันที่นิยมใช้รูปประโยคที่มีความยาว และบางครั้ง จะซับซ้อนอนมากกว่า เพื่อแสดงให้เห็นสภาวะทางจิตใจที่ไร้การควบคุมของตัวละคร และโฟล์คเนอร์ยังเลือกใช้ถ้อยคำที่ขึ้นอยู่ กับรูปแบบของตัวละครอีกด้วย การใช้ภาพพจน์ยังแสดงให้เห็นกระบวนการทำงานทางความคิดได้เป็นย่างดีเช่นกันซึ่งวุล์ฟ จะเน้นการใช้ภาพพจน์นำเสนออารมณ์ความรู้แต่โฟล์คเนอร์จะไม่เน้นการใช้ภาพพจน์เท่าวุล์ฟ การตัดต่อ และการย้อน เวลาก็เป็นกลวิธีการประพันธ์แนวกระแสสำนึกที่เป็นการทำลายความต่อเนื่องของเวลา และแสดงให้เห็นความแตกต่างของเวลาภายนอกและเวลาภายในกระแสสำนึก นวนิยายของวุล์ฟมีข้อได้เปรียบในการใช้กลวิธีการตัดต่อได้หลากหลายกว่าโฟล์คเนอร์ เนื่องจากการใช้บุมมองแบบบุรุษที่ 3 แต่นวนิยายของโฟล์คเนอร์จะถูกจำกัดด้วยมุมมองแบบบุรุษที่ 1 ในด้านของเนื้อหา กลวิธีการประพันธ์แนวกระแสสำนึกสามารถนำมาใช้นำเสนอองค์ประกอบของนวนิยายอันได้แก่ โครงเรื่อง แก่นเรื่อง และตัวละคร กล่าวคือ กลวิธีการเล่าเรื่องทำให้โครงเรื่องของนวนิยายแนวกระแสสำนึกไม่เป็นไปตามขนบนิยม เนื่องจากเน้นการแสดงกระบวนการทางความคิดมากกว่าการกระทำ โดยโครงเรื่องของวูล์ฟนั้นอยู่ในใจ ของตัวละครแต่ละตัว แต่โครงเรื่องของโฟล์คเนอร์อำพรางอยู่ในกระแสสำนึกของตัวละครหลายตัวคล้ายกับภาพตัวต่อจิกซอว์ที่ต้องนำมาเรียงต่อกันภายหลัง ในส่วนของแก่นเรื่องแบ่งออกเป็น 4 เรื่อง ได้แก่ ปรัชญาการดำเนินชีวิต ความจริงแท้ ภายในใจ การขาดปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างบุคคล และเวลา กลวิธีที่ใช้นำเสนอแก่นเรื่อง ได้แก่ กลวิธีการเล่าเรื่อง และกลวิธีการตัดต่อและย้อนเวลา และนอกจากนี้การสร้างตัวละครในนวนิยายแนวกระแสสำนึก จะมีความแตกด่างจากนวนิยายแนวขนบนิยมทั่วไปเพราะวูล์ฟและโฟล์คเนอร์นำเสนอตัวละครจากตัวตนภายในของตัวละครโดยเน้นที่กระบวนการทางความคิด อารมณ์ ความรู้สึก โดยละเลยเรื่องของการบรรยายรูปร่าง ลักษณะและการกระทำภายนอก |
| Other Abstract: | The purpose of this thesis is to compare the Stream-of-Consciousness novels of Virginia Woolf and William Faulkner in order to analyze the techniques and the contents, which involve plots, themes and characters. The result of tins study shows that Woolf and Faulkner have their own techniques to present the character ร process of mind and use them to present the contents of their novels properly. In this thesis, three techniques are studied: the narrative technique, the language technique and the montage and flashback technique. For the narrative technique, Woolf and Faulkner use the interior monolouge as a basic technique. There are different point of views in their novels. That is: Woolf's narrative technique is the third-person-point of view but Faulkner ร is the first -person-point of view. As for the language technique: language style and imagery. Woolf presents the process of consciousness by using long sentences, which consist of punctuation marks, phrases, clauses and repeated wordings and she emphasizes on imagery, especially a metaphor, to show the character ร thoughts and minds. So does Faulkner, whose equally long but more complex sentences show an uncontrollable states of the character’s mind. Moreover, Faulkner's language style depends on the particular type of character-being depicted but he uses the imagery in the different way. The montage and flashback technique is part of the Stream-of-Consciousness strategy, which destroys the continuity of time and can show the differences between the clock time and the consciousness time. Woolf’s third-person-point of view enables her to show more kinds of montage situations, but Faulkner’s novel are linnited by the first-person-point of view. The contents of the novels, made up of three elements; plots, themes and characters, presented by the above- mentioned techniques. The narrative technique takes the plots away from the conventional method. Woolf’s plot is in the mind of the character but Faulkner’s is concealed in die character’s consciousness. His plot can become clear, only when the various characters consciousness have been put together like a jigsaw picture. The writer’s themes are divided into four: the philosophy of life living, the inner reality 1 the lack of interpersonal relationship and the passage of Time. The technique to present the themes arc the narrative technique and the montage and flashback technique. The character of the Stream- of -Consciousness novels are different from the conventional character in that the appearance is neglected, hi stead, Woo If and Faulkner show their characters through their minds. |
