Abstract:	วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้ผู้เขียนได้ค้นหาและรวบรวมหลักฐานต่างๆ จากเอกสารที่มีผู้ศึกษาค้นคว้าเกี่ยวกับพระองค์ท่านไว้แล้วบ้างเพื่อให้มีความเข้าใจถึงพระประวัติและพระจริยวัตรของพระองค์ท่านในด้านต่างๆ ในด้านงานพระนิพนธ์นั้นผู้เขียนได้ค้นคว้าศึกษาจากงานพระนิพนธ์ของพระองค์ท่านทั้งหมดนำมาวิเคราะห์และสรุปข้อคิดเห็นต่างๆ เพื่อให้ทราบถึงพระปรีชาสามารถของพระองค์ท่านในด้านการนิพนธ์ส่วนในด้านห้องสมุดผู้เขียนก็ได้ค้นคว้าจากเอกสารและรายงานต่างๆ เกี่ยวกับประวัติของหอสมุดแห่งชาติในสมัยเริ่มแรกโดยมีความมุ่งหมายที่จะเสนอผลงานของสมเด็จฯ กรมพระยาดำรงราชานุภาพในด้านต่างๆ ดังนี้ ๑. เพื่อศึกษาถึงพระประวัติของพระองค์ท่านที่มีผลเกี่ยวกับงานพระนิพนธ์และงานห้องสมุดทั้งโดยตรงและโดยอ้อม ๒. เพื่อวิเคราะห์วิจัยงานพระนิพนธ์ทั้งหมดของพระองค์ท่านและรวบรวมผลงานพระนิพนธ์ของพระองค์ท่านไว้ทั้งหมด ๓. เพื่อศึกษาถึงประวัติความเป็นมาของหอสมุดแห่งชาติในสมัยเริ่มแรกและวิธีการที่สมเด็จฯ กรมพระยาดำรงราชานุภาพทรงเข้าไปดำเนินการในหอสมุดแห่งชาติซึ่งมีผลในทางนำเความเจริญให้แก่หอสมุดแห่งชาติ ๔. เพื่อเสนอการค้นคว้าเกี่ยวกับสมเด็จฯ กรมพระยาดำรงราชานุภาพเพิ่มเติมในด้านเกี่ยวกับบรรณารักษศาสตร์ซึ่งยังไม่มีผู้ใดได้ทำการค้นคว้าไว้ทั้งนี้เพื่อให้พระประวัติของพระองค์ท่านสมบูรณ์ยิ่งขึ้น
Other Abstract:	The principle aim of this thesis is to study the biography and works of H.R.H. Prince Damrong. Those works have also been analysed with some comment by the author for the purpose of indicating how much literary effect and influence they have over the library work and activities of the present time. As for Prince Damrong’s work in the field of library, the author has studied them from the documents and reports of the work of the National Library since its first establishment with the intention to bring about the Prince’s work both in the field of literature and library in a few aspects as follows: 1. To study the biography of Prince Damrong partly in his earlier days that resulted directly and indirectly in his writings and the library work. 2. To study and analyse all the literary works of Prince Damrong th-at has already been published. 3. To study the history of the National Library since its first establishment that Prince Damrong took responsibility as the Director which resulted in the progress and development of the National Library. 4. To do an additional research of the work of Prince Damrong that concerns the library science. This could fill the gap formerly omitted and make his biography a real complete.
