This paper deals with the communication policies with special emphasis on those which are considered to be the principles or practical methods regarded as operational guidelines on communications. Firstly, it attempts to define the term “communications” and then classify the major types of communications studied. Thailand’s communication policies are also examined, covering those issued in the constitution, in the governments’ statements, in the Communication Basic Plan (1982-1991), in the Fifth National Economic and Social Development Plan (1982-1986), as well as those derived from the Committee for Specific Purposes. The article is concluded with discussions on the utilization of communications for socio-economic and cultural development along with the communication policy in coordination with economic and security development plan.en
