dc.description.abstract	ความทุกข์ระทมของหนุ่ม “แวร์เธ่อ” เป็นนวนิยายสมัย “พายุและแรงผลักดัน” อันมีแก่นเรื่องสะท้อนแนวคิดและโลกทัศน์ของคนเยอรมันในคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 18 บางกลุ่มที่ชื่นชมผู้มี “อัจฉริยภาพ” อันได้แก่ สติปัญญา จินตนาการและ “หัวใจ” ซึ่งจะพบได้ในบุคลิกของแวร์เธ่อ แวร์เธ่อคือตัวแทนของคนเยอรมันรุ่นใหม่ในคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 18 ที่ไม่ต้องการอยู่ใต้กรอบหรือระเบียบต่างๆ ของสังคม เพราะเขาเห็นว่ามนุษย์มีอัตถิภาวะอันมีขอบเขตจำกัด อยู่แล้วเขาต้องการให้มนุษย์คิดและกระทำอย่างมีอิสระยกย่องความรู้สึกที่หลั่งไหลมาจาก “หัวใจ” และกระทำตามที่หัวใจปรารถนา ด้วยเหตุนี้ความรักของเขาจึงยิ่งใหญ่ เป็นสิ่งที่มีคุณค่าสูงสุดของมนุษย์และเป็นนิรันดร์เทียบได้กับความเป็นนิรันดร์ของพระผู้เป็นเจ้าเมื่อความรักไม่สมหวังชีวิตก็หมดความหมาย ความตายจึงเป็นหนทางสุดท้ายที่จะนำเขาไปสู่ความเป็นนิรันดร์ได้	en
dc.description.abstractalternative	“Die Leiden des jungen werther” is a novel of the “Sturm und Drang” period, which reflects the attitudes and “Weltanschauung” of the Germans in the 18th century who admired individuals with “Genie” : intellect, imaginative power and “heart” like the character of Werther. Werther represents the younger generation in the 18th century who did not want to live under social constraints and belived that the human beings are naturally born with the constricted conditions. Therefore, Werther longs for the freedom of thoughts and actions. He is all in favour of the feelings that flow freely from the “heart” and any actions dictated by the demands of the “heart”. For Werther “love” is the meaning of his existence and is as eternal as God. If his love is not fulfilled, his life meanth is worthless. And if that is the case, the only way to get to eternity is through death.	en
