The purpose of this research is to study the satisfaction of library users with signs in the Central Library, Centers of Academic Resources, Chulalongkorn University with respect to the size of letters, colour, sign area, symbol area, the method of installation, the position of installations that use the signs, and the type of materials. It was found that the general users’ satisfaction with the characteristics of the sixty-six signs is not greatly different. Most of the users’ satisfaction was found to be at the high and moderate levels. This may be caused by the fact that the four groups of users; the first year students, the upper-first- year students, the graduate students, the instructions and the officials of Chulalongkorn University have studied a cause of “Introduction to Library Sciences”, have used others libraries, or have received a formal orientation before using the Central Library. When all of the data was considered, the researcher found that the result of the research supports the hypothesis that some groups of the users’ satisfaction with size of letters are different. In general, the upper-first-year students and the graduate students have got moderate level satisfaction with the size of letters on sign of fourteen signs which were installed at the catalog cabinet area, reading area, periodical area, and reference area wherein the users have problems of finding or using the sources of data. On the other hand, the first year students, the instructors and the officials of Chulalongkorn University are not satisfied with the size of letters on signs and suggested that they should be improved by making the letters larger than at present. |
