dc.description.abstract	การที่ประเทศจะสามารถแข่งขันในเวทีโลกได้ดี ขึ้นอยู่กับคุณภาพของประชาชนของประเทศ ซึ่งน่าจะเป็นผลมาจากความสามารถในการติดตามความก้าวหน้าทางวิทยาการต่างๆโดยเฉพาะทางเทคโนโลยีเป็นสำคัญ บทความนี้ชี้ให้เห็นว่าแม้ความสามารถในการติดตามความก้าวหน้าทางวิชาการจะต้องอาศัยภาษาอังกฤษซึ่งเป็นภาษาโลกในปัจจุบัน แต่ความสามารถในการก้าวทันโลกวิทยาการสมัยใหม่ของประชากรส่วนใหญ่ของประเทศนั้น ไม่จำเป็นต้องผ่านภาษาอังกฤษเท่านั้น แต่น่าจะได้ผลดีมากกว่าสำหรับคนไทยส่วนใหญ่ ถ้าผ่านภาษาไทยซึ่งเป็นภาษาแม่ โดยอาศัยการแปลที่รวดเร็วและถูกต้องแม่นยำ นอกจากนี้ ความรู้ที่เป็นรากฐานสำหรับนักวิชาการ ซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มคนที่ควรต้องใช้ภาษาอังกฤษได้ดีถึงขั้นที่จะต้องเป็นผู้พูดสองภาษานั้น ก็อาจจะแน่นหนา ลึกซึ้ง สำหรับการถ่ายทอดได้เร็วและมั่นคงมากกว่า ถ้าใช้ภาษาแม่ในการปูความรู้รากฐาน ด้วยเหตุนี้จึงเป็นความจะเป็นที่รัฐควรต้องพิจารณาสนับสนุนการแปลอย่างจริงจัง	en
dc.description.abstractalternative	A country’s capability to compete in the world arena depends on the quality of its population. A high-quality population is capable of catching up with new developments in sciences and technologies. This article points out that although English is necessary for the acquisition of this advanced knowledge, it should prove more possible and successful for the majority of Thai people to catch up with the advancement of sciences and technologies through their native language, Thai, with the help of translation. Also, for academics and administrators, a solid foundation of knowledge in their fields may be better gained through Thai, rather than English. That would result in a better comprehension of basic concepts, which is necessary for more advanced studies. For all these reasons, the Thai government should seriously consider supporting translation.	en
