Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the state and problems of the organization of free elective subjects in secondary school curriculum (revises edition, B.E. 2533) in the curriculum try-out project schools under the jurisdiction of the Department of General Education. Research findings were as follow: At the preparation stage, the data showed that schools’ policy was mainly based upon schools’ readiness, planning was formulated after surveying school personnel aptitudes. Study programmes were formed according to their aptitudes and competencies. There were provisions of curriculum guideline, teaching plans, lesson plans, including teaching aids, classrooms laboratories and shops. Guidance personnel were assigned, each subject devision also prepared learning objectives and tests for evaluation purpose. Problems encountered were insufficient amount of teachers, lack of expertise among teachers, and insufficient amount regarding materials, documents, and school buildings. At the implementation stage, teachers were encouraged to apply different instructional technique, schools also provided an assistance regarding teaching aids application, School buildings and ground, laboratories and shops were used. Both formative and summative evaluations were emphasized on cognitive domain. Guidance division provided questionnaires for students, supervisory personnel also were assigned and meeting was the popular technique used in supervision. Problems reported were many duties and responsibilities among teachers, lack of expertise among teachers, insufficient amount of materials, documents and buildings, also guidance services were unpopular among students. At the evaluation stage, a survey method was employed among teachers while a performance observation method was employed among personal assigned. Only problem encountered reported was insufficient amount of personnel at the preparation stage, and there was no problem reported at the implementation stage.
