dc.description.abstract	การวิจัยครั้งนี้ มุ่งศึกษาประวัติความเป็นมาและพัฒนาการของมหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ ตามลักษณะเฉพาะ 2 ประการคือ เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยส่วนภูมิภาค และในขณะเดียวกันเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยที่มีหลายวิทยาเขต ผลการศึกษาโดยวิธีการวิจัยทางประวัติศาสตร์ จากข้อมูลเอกสารพบว่า ในฐานะมหาวิทยาลัยส่วนภูมิภาค มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์สามารถดำเนินการได้บรรลุวัตถุประสงค์ทางด้านการกระจายโอกาสทางการศึกษาออกสู่ภูมิภาคส่วนวัตถุประสงค์ทางด้านอื่น เช่น การมีบทบาทในฐานะศูนย์กลางทางวิชาการในการพัฒนาภูมิภาค ได้มีความพยามยามและแสดงออกในการดำเนินงานตามภารกิจเพิ่มมากขึ้นเป็นลำดับ แต่ยังไม่ปรากฏหลักฐานเด่นชัดว่า สามารถบรรลุวัตถุประสงค์ได้โดยแท้จริง ทางด้านการบริหาร มหาวิทยาลัยได้มีการพัฒนาโครงสร้างการบริหารให้สอดคล้องกับลักษณะของมหาวิทยาลัยที่มีหลายวิทยาเขต แต่ในขณะเดียวกันพบว่ายังมีปัญหาและอุปสรรคในการดำเนินงานบริหารหลายประการ คาดว่ามหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ จะสามรถบรรลุผลสำเร็จในการดำเนินการตามภารกิจในฐานะศูนย์กลางในการพัฒนาภาคใต้ได้ในอนาคต หากมีการกำหนดขอบข่ายหน้าที่ทางด้านการพัฒนาภูมิภาคของมหาวิทยาลัยให้ชัดเจน และเป็นไปได้ว่ามหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ จะพัฒนาแยกเป็นสองมหาวิทยาลัยในอนาคต ทั้งนี้เพื่อให้ปลอดจากข้อจำกัดอันเนื่องมาจากลักษณะของการเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยหลายวิทยาเขต	-
dc.description.abstractalternative	The purpose of this historical research was to inquire through document data. the historical background and development of Prince of Songkla University. With special concern on the University's characteristics as the regional and multicampus university, it was found out that : As the regional university, Prince of Songkla University had achieved its objective in providing more opportunity to obtain higher education for the students in the region. But on the other respect, even though there had been an increasing of attemp toward the objective of being academic centre for regional development, there still be no clear evident of its achievement. The University's administrative structure had been developed purposely for the administration and management of multicampus university. But inefficiency of the administration and management problems still be existed. It is expected that Prince of Songkla University will be able to achieve its objective as being centre for Southern development if its roles and duties in promoting regional development are specified clearly. And it is possible that the two campuses of Prince of Songkla University will develop to be two separated universities, so that they can be freed from the administrative problems and restriction of being multicampus university.	-
