A famous Thai professor once, told that if Thailand would like to be a developed country by learning style of Western or even some developed countries in Asia we will not be equal to them. We need to wait and see how those countries have developed, what has happened and how they can succeed. Therefore we cab follow them, that’s mean we will always walk follow them on step. Some foreign professors have told that in the past, there are three steps of development process for developing countries “Copied, adapted and innovated”. Copying high technology, and they try to adjust and develop until they are able to produce some new technology. The example of success can be seen from many Asia countries such as Japan, Korea or China etc. Many Western knowledge and high technology, which are called “international assistantes”, bombard over our country. Some of them are for projects and constructions, some for academic purposes, However, transportation is always one of main international supporting assistance purposes. Since Thailand location is at the centre of air-sea-land transportation of Asia context. As for Air transportation, East-West routes airplane always lack of fuel around territorial airspace of Thailand. Land transportation is considered as a gateway of Asia, from sea to land transferring transportation. For maritime transportation and merchandise, by now there is less number of vessels and cargo when compare with Singapore. However, the Government’s strategy of Land Bridge and Kra canal (the legend Imagination of Canal) might change that situation in future. When we talk about port planning situation after the Second World War, by assisting of United Nation Organization, Germany engineer group were planed and designed the Bangkok port (Klong Toi Port) in 1945 to be like the modernization port. That was only one worthy advice for Thailand’s port. Afterwards, port experts have remarked that other deep sea ports such as Laem Chabang, Sattahip and Songkla port were recommenced from international experts to located in Siam Gulf which is in the rear of Global liner routes in Andaman Sea. Thai town-planners do not have any specific knowledge for port and city Planning and administration. May be we were lied. There were several times for academics and professionals attempt to combine the knowledge of Port and Town planning to investigate Kra Canal, the pathway between Andaman Sea and Siam Gulf Sea. Although it is not practical project in Thailand, however, for academic context, it may an innovation of urban planning subject by the department of urban and regional planning, faculty of architecture, Chulalongkorn University. |
