dc.description.abstract	งานวิจัยนี้ตอบปัญหาว่าความคิดเชิงวิจารณ์กับวัฒนธรรมไทยเข้าด้วยกันได้หรือไม่ได้ประการใด'ความคิดเชิงวิจารณ์' นิยามว่าเป็นทัศนคติพื้นฐานและทักษะที่ช่วยให้ปัจเจกชนสามารถแก้ปัญหาต่างๆและมีหลักการในการเชื่อและการตัดสินใจ ส่วน'วัฒนธรรม' นิยามว่าเป็นระบบความคิด ความเชื่อ การประพฤติปฎิบัติที่เป็นลักษณะเฉพาะของไทย งานวิจัยนี้พบว่า ความคิดเชิงวิจารณ์ กับวัฒนธรรมไทยไม่จำเป็นต้องขัดแย้งกัน แม้ว่าถ้าสังเกตอย่างผิวเผินอาจพบได้ว่ามีลักษณะที่ ขัดแย้งกับ ลักษณะที่ดูเหมือนจะขัดแย้งกันนี้เช่น การที่หลายคนเชื่อว่าการเชื่อฟังผู้ใหญ่เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของวัฒนธรรมไทย ซึ่งลักษณะนี้อาจขัดกับหลักการของความคิดเชิงวิจารณ์ที่มุ่งให้เชื่อเฉพาะความจริงเท่านั้น และให้ผู้ที่มีทัศนอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่งแสดงเหตุผลหรือหลักฐานที่ทำให้ตนเชื่อเช่นนั้นออกมาให้ประจักษ์ งานวิจัยนี้มุ่งแสดงว่าลักษณะสองอย่างนี้ไม่จำเป็นต้องขัดกัน เพราะวัฒนธรรมไทยไม่มีสารัตถะที่จะกำหนดไปตลอดกาลว่านี่ต้องเป็นวัฒนธรรมไทยเสมอไป และการให้ค่าแก่ความคิดเชิงวิจารณ์เป็นเรื่องของคนไทยที่จะตัดสินใจกันเอง ไม่ใช่เรื่องของกรอบใหญ่ทางประวัติศาสตร์ที่จำต้องเกิดขึ้น	en
dc.description.abstractalternative	This research work aims at showing whether, and to what extent, critical thinking and Thai culture could go together conceptually.'Critical thinking' is defined as the basic dispositions and skills which help an individual in their decision making whether to believe or to act. 'Thai culture' is the set of values, beiefs and actions that altogether make up what it is to be Thai. It is found that critical thinking and Thai culture do not necessarily conflict, even though a superficial observation might suggest otherwise, Such an apparent conflict includes the trait, believed by many to constitute Thai culture, that one should believe the 'This trait may appear to contradict one of the tenets of critical thinking. To believe only what is true and well justified by reasons. That these two dispositions do not conflict is shown to be so through the argument that Thai culture is dynamic and lacks an essence, and that there is no metanarrative of history, and it is the Thais'decision whether to give any value of critical thinking.	en
