Abstract:
The purpose of this research study was to examine the relationships between parenting styles and achievement motivation in 230 students in Prathom Sueksa 5-6 from co-educational schools in Bangkok. Data were collected through 2 questionnaires; a survey of parenting style and an achievement motivation inventory, and then analyzed using a one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOV A), a Tukey's HSD Test, and a Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Findings were; 1) participants reporting democratic parenting style had significantly higher achievement motivation scores than those reporting rejecting and overprotective parenting styles (p < .01), and 2) there was a significant positive relationship between the scores of achievement motivation and democratic parenting style and, when compared, this relationship was significantly stronger than those that achievement motivation had with other type of parenting styles.
