| Abstract: | วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์ที่มา ลักษณะและบทบาทของอิทธิปาฏิหาริย์ต่างๆ ที่ปรากฏในชีวประวัติพระเกจิอาจารย์ในสังคมไทยภาคกลาง และเพื่อวิเคราะห์ขนบนิยมและพลวัตของการสร้างสรรค์เรื่องเล่าศักดิ์สิทธิ์เกี่ยวกับพระเกจิอาจารย์ โดยมีขอบเขตการวิจัย คือ ชีวประวัติของพระเกจิอาจารย์ในสังคมไทยภาคกลางที่มรณภาพแล้วและมีบันทึกชีวประวัติสมบูรณ์ จำนวน ๘๙ รูป ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ชุดเหตุการณ์สำคัญในเรื่องเล่าเกี่ยวกับชีวิตพระเกจิอาจารย์ของไทย รวมถึงขั้นตอนความเป็นวีรบุรุษทางศาสนามักเป็นไปตามขนบนิยมที่พบในเรื่องเล่าของศาสนบุคคลในคัมภีร์พุทธศาสนา ทว่าก็มีเหตุการณ์ย่อยและขั้นตอนบางขั้นตอนที่แตกต่างกันอันนับว่าเป็นลักษณะอันเป็นพลวัตในเรื่องเล่าเกี่ยวกับพระเกจิอาจารย์ของไทย ลักษณะของอิทธิปาฏิหาริย์ที่พบในชีวประวัติพระเกจิอาจารย์ของไทย มีทั้งที่เป็นไปตามขนบนิยมทางพุทธศาสนาและที่เป็นพลวัตด้วยอิทธิพลของสังคมวัฒนธรรมไทย อิทธิปาฏิหาริย์จากขนบนิยมทางพุทธศาสนา ได้แก่ ๑) การมีตาทิพย์-หูทิพย์ ๒) ปฏิสัมพันธ์กับอมนุษย์ ๓) ความสามารถในการหยั่งรู้เหตุการณ์ในอดีต ๔) ความสามารถในการระลึกชาติ ๕) ความสามารถในการหยั่งรู้เหตุการณ์ปัจจุบันด้วยญาณ ๖) ความสามารถในการหยั่งรู้เหตุการณ์ในอนาคต ๗) ความสามารถในการหยั่งรู้วาระจิตของผู้อื่น ๘) การสำแดงฤทธิ์ด้วยวิธีต่างๆ ๙) การบรรลุธรรมและฌาณสมาบัติ ๑๐) การปรากฏลักษณะของผู้มีบุญ ๑๑) ความสามารถสั่งสอนธรรมได้เป็นอัศจรรย์ ๑๒) ความสามารถในการทำสัตว์ให้เชื่องหรือสื่อสารกับสัตว์ด้วยอำนาจแห่งเมตตา ๑๓) การบรรเทาโรคภัยไข้เจ็บด้วยอำนาจการกำหนดจิต และ ๑๔) เหตุมหัศจรรย์ในช่วงมรณภาพและการจัดการสรีรสังขาร ส่วนอิทธิปาฏิหาริย์ที่เป็นพลวัต ได้แก่ ๑) อิทธิปาฏิหาริย์ว่าด้วยความแคล้วคลาดและคงกะพันชาตรี ๒) อิทธิปาฏิหาริย์ว่าด้วยการทำให้มีเสน่ห์ทางเพศ ๓) อิทธิปาฏิหาริย์ว่าด้วยเมตตามหานิยม เรียกทรัพย์ ๔) คาถาอาคม ๕) การประลองฤทธิ์ ๖) วาจาสิทธิ์ ๗) การปราบภูตผี ๘) การรักษาโรค ๙) การกลายเป็นดวงวิญญาณศักดิ์สิทธิ์หลังการมรณภาพ และ ๑๐) อิทธิปาฏิหาริย์ที่มีที่มาจากความคิดความเชื่ออื่นๆ ในสังคมไทย อิทธิปาฏิหาริย์ทั้งที่เป็นขนบนิยมและพลวัตมีบทบาททั้งในการสร้างสรรค์เรื่องเล่าเกี่ยวกับชีวประวัติพระเกจิอาจารย์ให้เป็นเรื่องเล่าศักดิ์สิทธิ์ ช่วยเติมเต็มความต้องการทางใจของพุทธศาสนิกชน และมีบทบาทต่อธุรกิจวัตถุมงคล |
| Other Abstract: | This dissertation aims at examining sources, characteristics and functions of miracles found in the life histories of Phra Kechi Achan in central Thai society as well as analyzing the convention and dynamism in the creation of Phra Kechi Achan’s sacred narratives. The dissertation uses the written and published narratives of 89 monks who already passed away as the main corpus of data. In this research, it was found that the significant event sets and stages of being religious heroes tend to follow the convention of narrative structure of Buddhist religious persons as appeared in the Buddhist canons. Certain sub-events and stages, nevertheless, are different which can be counted as the dynamistic features in the Phra Kechi Achan’s narratives. It is analyzed that the kinds of miracles in the life histories of Phra Kechi Achan in central Thai society are influenced by both Buddhist conventional narratives and Thai culture; the latter is considered as the dynamistic kinds of miracles. The Buddhist conventional miracles are: 1) the all-seeing eyes and ears 2) the communication with spiritual beings 3) the magical insight of the past 4) the recollection of previous lives 5) the miraculous discernment of present 6) the future foresight 7) the knowing of others’ minds 8) the supernatural expression of power 9) the enlightenment or attainment of Jhana mind state 10) the appearance of charismatic man 11) the wonderful skill of teaching Dharma 12) the great compassion to tame animals 13) the recover of illness by Dharma remedy and 14) the supernatural death and funeral time. The dynamistic miracles influenced by Thai culture are: 1) the power of being invulnerable 2) the power of casting charms 3) the power of gathering compassion and wealth 4) the magical spell 5) the miraculous power competition 6) the sacred utterance 7) the evil spirits overcoming 8) the power of remedy 9) the becoming of divine spirit after death and 10) the miracles influenced from other beliefs in Thai society. Both the conventional and dynamistic miracles enhance Phra Kechi Achan’s life histories to be the sacred narratives, fulfill the wishes of Thai Buddhists and support the amulet business. |
